Cbus Accident & Sickness Insurance

The Cbus Accident & Sickness Insurance scheme provides Cbus members with low cost Accident and Sickness insurance cover, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, worldwide, for loss of income as a result of injury or illness.​​

​How does it work?

The Cbus Accident & Sickness scheme's low cost insurance cover is flexible, letting you design your own type of cover. You can insure yourself for up to 100% of your income (capped at $3,000 weekly benefit). You can also elect a waiting period of 14, 28, 60 or 90 days - It’s your choice.​​​

What are the features?

  • Most occupations are covered

  • Option to include cover for lump sum (capital) benefits for death and permanent disability resulting from injury or disappearance

  • Premiums may be tax deductible

  • You can choose between a two year or three year benefit period

  • Worldwide cover for 24 hours a day, 7 days per week

  • Cover is available for stress, anxiety and depression

  • If your employment ceases as a result of disability after you make a claim, benefits continue to be paid

  • If you return to work in a reduced capacity, partial disability benefits are payable

  • Range of payment options available, including credit card, bank deposit and monthly instalments

This cover is provided outside of your Cbus superannuation account, therefore premiums cannot be deducted from your superannuation account. The premium must be paid directly by you.

Key Restrictions and Limitations: Pre-existing conditions are not covered under this policy and any payable condition must occur within twelve (12) months of the date of Illness or Injury. 

The policy defines a pre-existing condition as ‘any injury, illness, disease, sickness, chronic or degenerative condition, medical condition and any other condition or symptoms thereof, for which the insured person has received any form of medical or prescribed treatment including medication, advice or attention from a registered medical practitioner, chiropractor, physiotherapist, psychiatrist or naturopath, at any time prior to the commencement of each period of insurance. This does not include the common cold or flu viruses’
